Experience

From graduate developer to Lead Developer at Next.

I joined Next in June 2019 as a trainee graduate developer and have progressed into a Lead Developer role, specialising in frontend development and platform-minded retail delivery.

June 2019

Joined Next as a trainee developer

Started as a graduate developer, learning professional delivery, retail engineering, and the fundamentals of building at scale.

Progression

Grew through the engineering track

Built frontend depth across browse and shop experiences, team delivery, shared platform work, and the habits needed to maintain long-lived systems.

Now

Lead Developer

Focused on frontend architecture, platform thinking, developer experience, and helping teams ship reliable customer-facing journeys.

Total Platform

Multi-brand retail journeys on shared foundations.

A major part of my work has been helping facilitate Next's Total Platform offering: a multi-tenancy setup that supports customer-facing retail websites across multiple businesses.

My own work has focused on frontend browse and shop areas across those sites, alongside modernisation projects that move capability away from a legacy monolith and toward independent microservices.

Total Platform
Shared storefront foundations
Brand configuration
Browse and shop areas
Independent micro-service boundaries

Retail Reach

Customer-facing work across recognisable brands.

Different storefronts, brand rules, markets, browse pages, and shop experiences, all needing to sit on shared platform foundations without feeling generic to the people using them.

Frontend specialism

Turning product requirements and brand needs into maintainable customer-facing interfaces.

Modernisation work

Helping move parts of a legacy monolith toward independent microservices with clearer ownership and delivery paths.

Delivery leadership

Helping translate ambiguity into practical implementation paths for teams and stakeholders.

Platform quality

Caring about performance, accessibility, maintainability, and the developer experience behind the scenes.
